Position Description

Food Bank For New York City is the city's major hunger-relief organization. The Food Bank works to end food poverty and increase access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income New Yorkers throughout the five boroughs; our initiatives focus on direct services, food sourcing and distribution, nutrition and health education, financial empowerment, disaster relief and policy and research.
 
The Food Bank procures and distributes food to a network of approximately 1,000 food assistance programs citywide. In addition, we provide food safety and capacity-building workshops; manage school nutrition education programs, after-school and emergency food programs; conduct food stamp prescreening and outreach; operate a Senior Food Program and a soup kitchen and food pantry; coordinate the largest Free Tax Assistance Program in the country; and develop policy and conduct research to inform community and government efforts to end food poverty throughout New York City.

Location: Lower Manhattan Office - Near Wall Street

The purpose of this position is to provide monitoring of activities and provide technical assistance in the Food Bank For New York City’s CookShop nutrition education program.  Working within a fast-paced environment, this position requires an organized individual with interest in food, nutrition and poverty issues, the ability to work and communicate with a variety of audiences and the ability to travel throughout the five boroughs on a regular basis.
 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct site monitoring activities in New York City schools and community based organizations.
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate documentation and processing of all site monitoring activities, and participate in other evaluation activities as needed.
  • Observe and monitor lessons and workshops to ensure effective implementation of program.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to program implementers as needed.
  • Review reporting requirements and documentation with program implementers as necessary to ensure reports are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Provide updates to Food Bank staff to continuously enhance quality and integration of school and community-based programming.
  • Assist with administrative duties including data entry, filing and meeting coordination as needed.
  • Assist in coordination and facilitation of aspects of training, technical support and program maintenance for the organizations nutrition education programs as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with two years experience in nutrition, public health, public elementary school education, health education, culinary arts, food systems, or other related field.
  • Excellent communication and customer services skills, with the ability to interact with diverse audiences and maintain the highest level of professionalism.
  • Proficiency in all MS office applications and strong and organizational skillsrequired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with the public school system and/or working in the area of poverty.
  • Interest in and familiarity with food poverty and nutrition policy a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages a plus.
