Position Description
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field with 7-10 years of editorial management experience.
Must have a minimum of 3 years online editorial experience.
Extensive knowledge of consumer health topics required.
Must be able to produce top-quality content for the web and have strong web development and project management skills.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams to build new site features and enhancements required.
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and know Microsoft office.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to handle the demands of a normal office environment, including prolonged sitting, repetitive motion (such as typing on a computer keyboard), stretching, lifting, reaching etc. Travel required.
Responsibilities:
The Editor, ConsumerReportsHealth.org sets and executes the content vision and user experience for the subscription website ConsumerReportsHealth.org and any associated digital properties. He/she works in close collaboration with the Product Team and content providers including the Editorial Director for Health, Director for Health Ratings Center and our Health Advocates, to conceive and develop a broad array of engaging site features, from Health Ratings and editorial features to blogs and videos. The Editor creates a unique and compelling voice for the site, and supports broader efforts to position the brand as an essential source for credible health information on the Web.
This role will:
Develop a full understanding of ConsumerReportsHealth.org’s current customer base of 120,000 subscribers, the company’s mission and vision, and its product line with special focus on Internet products.
Envision and implement a highly relevant and compelling Web-based content strategy for the site, addressing all online content formats (editorial/news, multi-media, user-generated content, reference information and data, software and content delivery applications etc.) to meet the needs of our health customers.
Partner with Product Management to actively shape the service from a customer as well as a business-focused perspective.
Oversee day-to-day health programming across our content channels, including Healthy Living, Conditions & Treatments, Doctors and Hospitals, Insurance, Drugs, Natural Medicines.
Maintain an integrated calendar for health content.
Set reporting/editorial processes and standards, and reinforce a consistency of approach across all ConsumerReportsHealth.org content.
Supervise directly a staff of 3-5.
Work collaboratively with others outside your immediate reports to ensure timely execution of all editorial content and Web Development deliverables.
Represent the Editorial Division to the ConsumerReportsHealth.org Product Team and other groups involved in website creation and maintenance.
Participate in long-term planning and shape the health service’s future online.
Help to identify innovative interactive tools and product enhancements, and define opportunities for future product expansion.
In partnership with Advocacy and the Executive Office, develops content on public policy issues such as patient safety, drug and supplement regulation, and robust implementation of health care reform.
